Here are a few highlights from August:
|
|
CAMPAIGN UPDATE
August was a busy month as we gear up for the traditional Labor Day kick-off of campaign season. On August 14th we opened all four of our new campaign offices! Each location was packed with families enjoying food, music and fun. In addition to our offices, our billboards started to spring up around Precinct 2 with our core message: Listens. Works. Delivers. Click here to see them! And, thank you to all the volunteers who joined us in their production.

ELECTION MACHINE UPDATE
After a devastating fire, all of the voting machines and related equipment for Harris County elections were destroyed. A total loss for the County, the Commissioner's Court met in an emergency meeting Monday, August 30 to hear from our District Clerk, Beverly Kaufman present plans for Election Day. As a result, we voted for a plan to buy and borrow eSlate electronic voting machines from the manufacturer, other counties and where ever we can find them. These will be used for both Early Voting and Election Day. All Early Voting locations will open as usual. In addition and as a back-up plan on Election Day, paper ballots will be available to ensure that all polling locations are opened as usual on Election Day, November 2, 2010.
While every effort is being made to find machines, the reality is that to avoid lines, it is best to vote early or by mail. The important dates to remember are as follows:
September 3 - 1st day to apply for ballot by mail
October 4 - Last day to register to vote in November 2 election
October 18 - Early voting begins-GO VOTE
October 26 - Last day to apply for ballot by mail
October 29 - Last day to early vote-if you haven't voted-GO VOTE-otherwise face lines on Election Day.
November 2 - Election Day-Last Chance-GO VOTE
You can contact any of our offices for information, a ride to the polls or to volunteer to get people out to vote. Call 832.888.2885.
